* There are around 2600 landfills in the United States, about 1/2 of which are open. They are mostly owned by municipalities and built based on EPA regulations and standards. Over 500 have LMOP partners and serve 85%+ of the U.S. population. LMOP partners recover the biogas, which is used for: heating and cooling; feedstock for chemicals, plastics, bioplastics, fertilizers; cooking (RNG is interchangeable with fossil-fuel natural gas), and; fuel for government and farm vehicles, industry, and electricity.
